MinebeaMitsumi Cebu Plant Begins Construction of New Building

MinebeaMitsumi Inc. is pleased to announce that a groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 10th for a new building of the Cebu Mitsumi Danao Plant. This new flagship production facility to boost analog semiconductor back-end capacity, backed by the global south subsidy program*.

Since its establishment in January 1989, the Cebu Plant has continued to expand and is now home to approximately 20,000 employees*2, handling a wide range of MinebeaMitsumi products, including semiconductors, camera actuators, connectors, and more.

The building No. 14 of the Cebu Plant, currently under construction, will have an approximately 8,000 ㎡ clean room on the second floor. Starting in 2027, a high-productivity line for cutting-edge semiconductor thin packages will be gradually launched. Additionally, production from the existing will be consolidated into the building No. 14, increasing the Cebu Plant’s semiconductor back-end capacity threefold compared to current levels. The first-floor will be used as space for future production expansion of the plant.

Looking ahead, solar panels will be installed on the rooftop of the building No.14. Together with the approximately 7.9 MW-dc solar power system already in operation at the Cebu Plant since October 2023, this initiative will further accelerate MinebeaMitsumi group’s efforts toward carbon neutrality and environmental impact mitigation.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. T. Panga, the Director-General of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), which oversees the economic zone where the Cebu Factory is located; Mr. D. Lachica, President of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries Association of the Philippines (SEIPI); and Mr. H. Matsuo, Consulate General of Japan in Cebu, and other guests. The ceremony featured the breaking of ground and prayers for safety, as well as the traditional Filipino practice of burying a capsule to wish for the successful completion of the construction.

The construction of the building No.14 and establishment of semiconductor production line have been selected as part of the “Production Innovation Demonstration Project for Analog Semiconductor Back-end Process (Packaging)” under the “Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Program (Large-scale Demonstration in ASEAN Member Countries),” an initiative set up by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. MinebeaMitsumi Group is committed to promoting in-house back-end production by leveraging the subsidies from this program, while also enhancing production capacity and competitiveness in both Japan and the Philippines to further strengthen its supply chain.

Under the corporate philosophy “To contribute to realization of sustainable, eco-friendly and prosperous society by providing better products, at a faster speed, in larger numbers, at a lower cost, and by smarter means,” MinebeaMitsumi will continue to grow as a one-of-a-kind INTEGRATED precision component manufacturer, contributing to the realization of a more prosperous society by delivering indispensable components to the world.

* Subsidized project for Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Program (Large-Scale Demonstration Project in ASEAN member countries)
*2 As of the end of December 2024, including temporary staff and others.
