Announcing the Opening of “MinebeaMitsumi Development Center Košice”

MinebeaMitsumi Inc. announces that we established a new development base “MinebeaMitsumi Development Center Košice (MDCK)” in Košice Region, Slovak Republic. The primary purpose of this new facility is to develop electronic equipment products for the automotive market as well as robot products for the industrial equipment market, and to conduct electronic engineering research and development.

In 1990, the MinebeaMitsumi Group established a research and development facility for spindle motors for HDDs and it was the beginning of an organization of the current MinebeaMitsumi Technology Center Europe GmbH (MTCE). Subsequently, the Group established the Tokyo Research and Development Center (TRDC) in 2013, the China Technical Center in 2018, the Osaka Research and Development Center (ORDC), and the Karuizawa Headquarters Technology Center in 2022 to focus on product development in each business unit. At the same time, we have promoted MinebeaMitsumi’s “INTEGRATION” activities, which create synergies by combining our diverse core technologies.

As we aim to achieve sales of 2.5 trillion yen and operating income of 250 billion yen by the fiscal year ending March 2029, our growth strategy is centered on three points: organic (self-sustaining) growth, M&A, and the development of products and supply of parts that solve social issues. In addition to the MinebeaMitsumi Group’s conventional product development, we are actively working on the development of edge devices that solve social issues, new products that support them, and high value-added products for the next generation.

MinebeaMitsumi Development Center Košice is established as a base for the development of electronic products for automotive use that are essential for the electrification of automobiles, robot products for the industrial equipment market that contribute to automation and labor saving, and to conduct research and development of electronic engineering systems.

MinebeaMitsumi Group currently has two production plants (Minebea Slovakia and Minebea Access Solutions Slovakia) in Košice Region, Slovak Republic, where we manufacture mainly high-precision motors for automotive applications and automotive parts.

This development center not only works closely with the production plants mentioned above and MinebeaMitsumi Technology Center Europe GmbH in neighboring Germany, but also collaborates with other R&D bases around the world, such as the Tokyo R&D Center, to develop and accelerate new technological development and the INTEGRATION of our own technologies.

The opening ceremony was held in May and we had the honor of having Mr. Yasuhiro Kawakami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Slovak Republic, Mr. Rastislav Trnka, President of the Košice Self-governing Region and Mr. Marcel Gibóda, Deputy Mayor of City of Košice.
