Assembly Robot

New technology continues to improve automation capabilities leading to a wider range of applications. Sensors are critical components for expanding automation capabilities because they providing additional feedback which enables increased control. Complex operations such as placing multipin connectors into a PCB traditionally utilize optical feedback and advanced algorithms to properly perform component insertion without damaging the terminal pins.

Our MEMS Sensor Advantage

Our MEMS 6 Axis Force Sensor Measures is designed to measure the insertion force of connector pins into PCB holes, ensuring precise alignment and preventing contact with hole edges. It also measures the insertion force between male and female connectors to avoid misalignment and pin damage. The end effector rotates in a small circle until the insertion force (Fz) is minimized. Once the pin tips enter the mating holes, the sensor captures lateral forces and torques, detecting potential misalignment before full insertion. Our key advantage is offering the world’s smallest 6-axis force/torque transducer, fully integrated, calibrated, and featuring SPI digital output with temperature compensation. It’s ideal for AI and machine learning applications.

Assembly Robot Video

Check out this video, which shows our MMS101 Miniature 6-axis force sensor, which was used by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in their assembly robots for automated PCB insertion. The video includes a live demonstration and includes the data collected, which shows force measurement and moment over time.
